Lana Del Rey: Advert Analysis

This Lana Del Rey advert is extremely simple, but the picture of the singer herself captures the audience. The photo represent the music on her album -beautiful and delicate. The beauty of her voice is shown through the beauty of the picture. Her name is the title of the advert, it is large and bold to make it stand out, the colour of the writing is perfect against the blue sky background. The details of the album that include the name of the album, the date it comes out and some of the songs that are included. This house style goes with the colour of the sky background. The writing is classy and stands out and represents the type of album it is, its a sort of way to show a person what the songs will be like. The photo of Lana herself is stunning, every detail of her is clean and perfect, the white shirts helps the blue writing stand out. Her pose is very simple, it makes a viewer look like she is looking at them directly, this is eye catching and persuades a person to buy the CD. Her hair slightly covers the 'DEL' bit, this is a convention of an advert. For our advert we have a band therefore all of the band will be included on the advert, although we have this idea that the main singer will stand out compared to the rest of the band by being positioned in the middle of the band and her clothing will be bright and unique whereas the band will be plain in all black clothing. The band will be looking directly at the camera like this Lana Del Rey one.

Location Spotting

Today we went location spotting and found some scary looking backtrack and train tracks! We thought we could use these locations for our chase scene or for the cage scene. Knowing that it could be dangerous to film on the train tracks, my dad will be supervising us to ensure that we are all safe.

Regina Spektor - Advert Analysis

From looking at the Regina Spektor advert you can see that she has a colour scheme of red white and black that is alternative, also having gold and grey featured within. This is conventional because it's the typical colour scheme for alternatie rock genre, although it has been altered and made more lighthearted with the other colours. Regina has been placed in the centre of the page, this has been done so it's the first thing the target audience eyes are drawn to, and straight away they will know it's a Regina Spektor advert. They will also know this by having the name 'Regina Spektor' in think red writing, again having the audienced draw their eyes straight to this aswell. As the use of red isn't the main colour the audience eyes will turn to whatever is red, they have done this to make the features stand out first. There are all the basic conventions of an advert such as a bold date, which is easy to see, so that the audience don't have to stand for ages reading. The information has been simplified for them. The song title has been put in the colour of gold, which is one of the only gold features on the advert. This has been done so that again it stands out to thet audience and they know which song the advert is about straight away, so it's very recognisable.
From looking at this Regina Spektor advert we will use the conventions of having the colour scheme black white and red, which is typical for an alternative rock band. Although they have added the gold in for a lighter effect we will keep it basic with black, white and red to emphasise the rock. Although Regina's image is in colour, we are going to have our's in black and white or subtly having it in colour with the main features of the face bold, like the eyes and lips. This convention has been used on the advert, but we would only do this on the female singer, so that she stands out more, being the lead. also keeping with the red lips, to eep with the colour scheme and the blue eyes, to give the poster some light, as the band aren't as hardcore as 'Bring Me The Horizon' which new fans think it might be. We will also keep the information simplified as the target audience won't want to be reading for ages, they will want the most important information put infront of them with no effort to read. We will also keep the band name or album name extra bold for it to stand out more.

Studio Filming

Today we rang up the Y Studios (Queen Alexandra Sixth Form) and ask about filming our performance there. We realised that we would have to pay £10 each for a four hour session in the studio. We realised that this is a bit expensive and decided that we would have to go up and have a look around before we paid any money. We are going to look to see if the camera will fit and if everything looks professions and to be able to use the lighting effects that the studio has available. We will also be able to work out the different camera angles that we will be using.

Blog Diary: Week 3

This week we have been concentrating on the storyboard finishing touches aiming to have the animatic done by Thursday so we can proceed to have audience feedback through Friday. This planning is crucial as the audience feedback will tell us what shots and part of the story we need to change before we begin filming next week. Through the week we have scanned in over 100 shots, which are all go into detail about different angles and shots we want to use in the story.  Also through this week we have been doing a survey which is available online for our target audience to answer as we can gather in more detail what our target audience are looking for in a indie rock music video.

Over the weekend we will be planning shoots in our certain locations and planning our schedules so we can see when would be best for us to do the shoots. Some shooting will be night so we will also be researching how to have successful night time shoots. As a group we aim to be filming by the end of next week of next weekend at the latest, we have already asked permission off all the actors we want to include in the film, many of them we have full faith will make the music video look as professional as possible. We have also this week gathered a band which can all play the instruments which should make the performance side of the video more professional. This weekend we also will be analyzing the target research to ensure we are doing what our target audience want to see in an indie rock video.
